Frequently Asked Questions

Questions

Which classes are appropriate for Lagree beginners?

There are no “advanced” or “beginner” classes. Feel free to sign up for any class on our schedule and our instructors will ensure that the level of difficulty is appropriate for you.

If you are an advanced Pilates veteran and worry it will be too easy… it won’t.

If you are concerned that your level of fitness is not sufficient, all of our instructors are trained to adjust the difficulty of each exercise to your level.

How early do I need to arrive?

Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first class so the instructor can give you a quick primer and show you how to use the machine. Even if you have experience at a Reformer pilates studio like Club Pilates or a Megaformer studio like Studio Lagree or Solidcore, we still recommend arriving early so we can show you the features and switches on our M3K+ Megaformers.

After your first session, arrive any time before the start of class. It helps us maintain the flow and ensures everyone can get out on time and enjoy the rest of their day.

I’m running late. Will I lose my spot?

We understand that traffic exists and meetings sometimes run over alloted time. However, having all clients arrive on time is critical so class can flow smoothly for all other clients. If you arrive late to your FIRST class at Resistance, you will not be able to participate because the Instructor cannot stop the class to give you the initial overview of the machine.

If you arrive late to a subsequent class, you will most likely be able to join. We try to staff every class with a receptionist which allows tardy clients to check-in and join class without disruption. However if there is no instructor staffed during your class and you arrive late, you may find the doors locked because we need to protect client property and Instructors cannot monitor the lobby while teaching.

What if I can no longer make it to a class I booked?

You can view all your bookings and cancel them in your Mindbody account or the Mindbody app. Cancellations submitted more than 12 hours prior to the start of class are “early cancels” and do not get deducted from your account.

Many of our classes fill up and we are rarely able to fill a missed spot last minute. Because of our small class sizes, it is very important that we fill every spot we can. Cancellations made less than 12 hours prior to the start of class are “late cancels” and are deducted from your account as if you attended class. Unfortunately, we have no control over ClassPass credits so clients who book through ClassPass need to reach out their support to resolve any issues.

What happens if I miss a class?

Missed classes that are not cancelled are deducted from your account as if you attended class.

I joined the waitlist for a class. How does that work?

If you are on the waitlist for a full class, our system will add you to class and send you an email if/when a spot opens up. Sometimes this happens shortly before class and we understand if you cannot make it on short notice. If you are added to a class within 12 hours of class time and are unable to make it, we will not charge the class to your account. Even if you notice after the class happened, just send us an email at info@resistancechicago.com and we will credit the class back to your account.

Are you on ClassPass?

Yes, we are proud to offer one of the highest rated classes on ClassPass in Chicago! However, there is a limited number of spots available on ClassPass and some popular classes are excluded - availability is determined by the ClassPass algorithm but you can usually find spots if you book a few days in advance. If you would like access to all classes, we have several new client specials and class packs. Please note that we are not able to reschedule or refund ClassPass bookings on our end so clients must reach out to ClassPass support with any issues.

ClassPass users can book through the ClassPass app or through our ClassPass page. Booking classes directly through our schedule or the Mindbody app once you have purchased a package directly allows us more freedom to reschedule your classes.

I have an injury. Is it safe to do a class?

Like traditional pilates, Lagree Method is a very low-impact workout and the machines allow you to customize the resistance / assistance level on any exercise to suit your body. Every injury is different so you should speak with your physician if you have concerns. It is also important to let our instructors know before class that you are working through an injury so they can modify any exercises that could exacerbate your condition. You can always email us at info@resistancechicago.com with details of your concerns.

I'm pregnant. Is Lagree appropriate as a pre-natal workout?

Lagree Method offers a great way build strength in deep abdominal and pelvic muscles that can be helpful in delivery and for post-natal recovery. However, certain steps should be taken in order to ensure that this is being done safely.

Every body and pregnancy is unique and clients should clients consult with their physician prior to starting any fitness routine. All of our instructors have been trained to cater their routines for pregnant clients. Kathryn and Jenna are certified in prenatal fitness and have the most experience in this space. These are some important things to keep in mind when exercising during pregnancy:

  • Communicate – Please let your instructor know that you are pregnant before the start of class. It is not always obvious and the Instructor cannot make the proper modifications if they do not know. Our Instructors generally try to motivate clients to push their bodies through the workout, but pregnant women should first and foremost listen to their own body. Take breaks when you feel you need them, don’t do exercises that you are uncomfortable with and don’t be shy about calling the instructor over if you need help or something doesn’t feel right.

  • Avoid prone and supine positions – Our instructors have been trained to offer modifications for exercises to allow you to target each muscle group while avoiding these positions.

  • Avoid risk of falling and other trauma – Some Lagree exercises challenge your balance. While it is very rare that somebody falls during one of our classes, our instructors can offer you modifications that will minimize this unnecessary risk.

  • Stay hydrated – This is always important, but even more so during pregnancy.

  • Avoid excessive heat – We keep our studio at around 69 degrees year-round.

Is there parking at the studio?

There is limited parking on Milwaukee Ave, but there is city parking directly behind the studio (~$3/hour via the ParkChicago app). From Milwaukee ave, turn onto Hermitage and there is usually ample metered parking along the L tracks.
